Ryan Katz on All-Spring Team

May 4, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. -

Oregon State sophomore quarterback Ryan Katz has been named to the Sporting News’ All-Spring Team, as comprised by college football writer Dave Curtis.

Katz, a sophomore quarterback from Santa Monica, Calif., is in competition for the starting position for the 2010 Beavers.  He played in four games last season behind New Orleans Saints draft pick and All-Pac-10 First Team selection Sean Canfield.  Katz completed 14 of 27 pass attempts for 232 yards in four games during his redshirt-freshman season.

“Blessed with a big arm, Katz has added the consistency and accuracy to run an offense featuring James and Jacquizz Rodgers (Heisman Trophy candidate),” Curtis wrote.

The Beavers have nine starters returning of offense, including a loaded group of “skill” players in addition to the aforementioned Rodgers brothers.  The cast comprises returning lettermen receivers Darrell Catchings, Markus Wheaton, Geno Munoz, Aaron Nichols and Kevan Walker, running backs Ryan McCants, Jovan Stevenson and Jordan Jenkins, and tight ends/H backs Joe Halahuni, Brady Camp, John Reese and Colby Prince.

Oregon State returns to the practice field Aug. 9 in preparation for the 2010 season, which opens Sept. 4 vs. TCU at Cowboys Stadium on ESPN.
