McWherter: A Soldier On And Off The Field

May 5, 2010

Husky softball player Alyson McWherter has had quite the juggling act the last three years.

Not only does McWherter face the usual difficulties of being a student athlete, squeezing in class and studying in between practice, weights and travel, the senior outfielder has also thrown in the responsibility of being a member of UW's ROTC.

McWherter, who will graduate in June as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, has been UW's starting centerfielder the last two years while also maintaining a 3.34 GPA and rising to the top 7% of the nation's upcoming soldiers.

Recently, Fox Q-13's Aaron Levine featured McWherter's difficult task of balancing school, softball and military duties, catching up with her one recent early morning for tactical training.
