Matt Fanelli Earns Academic Honor

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University senior designated hitter Matt Fanelli has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District VIII All-Academic First Team.

A native of Olympia, Wash., Fanelli is a psychology major with a 3.78 grade point average. He has appeared in each of the Cougars' 39 games this season, including 27 starts. He is batting .277 with 15 extra-base hits, including four home runs. Fanelli is tied for the team lead with 29 RBI, including a team-best 13 with two outs.

A team captain this season, he is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic First Team selection and a seven-time WSU President's Honor Roll member. Three times, Fanelli has been named to the WSU Athletics All-Academic Team and three times has been selected as a Cougar Academic Top 50 Scholar Athlete. In addition, he is a member of WSU Honors College and a WSU Athletics peer academic counselor.
