Softball Drops Series Opener to No. 7 Arizona State

May 7, 2010

Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Freshman Marina Demore (Vancouver, British Columbia) nailed her first long career long ball to score three, but the Oregon State softball team (22-28, 2-14) couldn’t stop a late rally by the No. 7 Arizona State Sun Devils (40-11, 9-7) in Friday’s series opener at the OSU Softball Complex.

Oregon State jumped on the board in the bottom of the second on Demore’s three-run shot over right field, scoring sophomores Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) and Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.), who both singled to left field to start the inning.

Arizona State quickly put two runs on the board to answer the Beavers on a pair of RBI singles in the top of the third to make it a 3-2 game.

The two teams’ pitchers battled back and forth through the rest of the game with both pitchers only giving up a single hit each before the seventh inning when the Sun Devils took the 4-3 lead on back-to-back RBI doubles.

Demore threw the complete game, throwing a pair of strikeouts, but falls to 1-2 overall. Arizona State’s Hillary Bach earned the complete game win to improve to 22-4 on the season.
