Perez Posts Lifetime-Best 1st Day Score At Pac-10 Decathlon Championships

Trent Perez stands in sixth-place after day one of the Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships in Berkeley, CA as the sophomore scored a lifetime-best day one point total (3470 points) in the decathlon.

Ashton Eaton of Oregon leads the competition with 4220 points, while Perez stands in sixth overall.

Perez started the day off with the sixth-fastest time of the day with a season-best run in the 100m (11.37) for 780 points. He followed that up with a lifetime-best performance in the long jump, leaping out to 21-10.75 for the fifth-best jump of the day and 736 points. He was 12th in the shot put with a toss of 31-3 (457 points). Perez ended the day with back-to-back season-best performances in the high jump and 400m. His high jump mark of 6-00.75 was seventh-best of the day (670 points), while his 400m time of 49.73 was the third-fastest of the day (827 points).

The sophomore concludes competition on Sunday with the high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
