UCLA's Bauer, Cole Named to Pitcher of the Year Revised Watch List
May 8, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Sophomore right-handers Trevor Bauer and Gerrit Cole have been selected to the revised watch list for the 2010 Pitcher of the Year award, as announced Saturday by the College Baseball Foundation. Bauer (7-3, 3.01 ERA) and Cole (7-2, 2.79) rank first and second in strikeouts, respectively, in the Pac-10.
UCLA is just one of three schools to have two pitchers selected to the 25-man revised watch list. Texas' Cole Green, Chance Ruffin and Brandon Workman represent the Longhorns, while Coastal Carolina's Anthony Meo and Cody Wheeler are also on the revised list.
Cole leads the Pac-10 with 104 strikeouts and ranks third on UCLA's pitching staff with a 2.79 ERA. Bauer ranks second in the conference with 98 strikeouts and leads the Bruins with 80.2 innings. Cole's .184 opponent batting average ranks second among UCLA pitchers (behind Garett Claypool) and is fourth in the Pac-10.
Bauer and Cole are tied for the team's lead in wins with seven (along with Claypool).
The Pac-10 Conference is also represented on the list by Arizona's Kurt Heyer and Arizona State's Seth Blair.
The 2010 Pitcher of the Year award will be presented July 2, as part of the College Baseball Awards show in Lubbock, Texas, as part of a weeklong schedule of festivities sponsored by the College Baseball Foundation.
