Krais Finishes 2nd At Pac-10 Heptathlon Championships

Sophomore Ryann Krais picked up UCLA's first points of the conference meet on Sunday as she finished second in the Pac-10 Heptathlon Championships with a solid score of 5426 points. Oregon's Briane Theisen won with a total of 5917 points.
Krais was in third after day one and moved up to second on the final day of competition. Her score of 5426 points ranks ninth in the NCAA this season and is a provisonal qualifier to the NCAA meet. Krais' point total is just 74 points shy of the NCAA automatic standard of 5500 points.
She opened the day with the fourth-best long jump mark (18-6.50/744 points) and then finished third in the javelin with a toss of 121-7 for 611 points. Krais capped off her competition with an impressive lifetime-best 800m run of 2:13.73 to win the final event of the heptathlon (911 points).
The Bruins stand in third-place with Krais' eight points, while Oregon is in first with 14 points.
The rest of the Pac-10 Championships will take place in Berkeley next weekend (May 15-16).
