May 9, 2010

Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Freshman Ally Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) earned her 23rd RBI of the season to give the Oregon State softball team (24-28, 4-14) the 4-3 walk-off win in 10 innings over No. 7 Arizona State (40-13, 9-9 Pac-10) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.

The seniors all shined with Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) hitting a solo home run, Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.) scoring the game winning run, Katelyn Miller (Camarillo, Calif.) getting her first hit of the season and Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) and Alana Ford (Camarillo, Calif.) both getting starts with errorless games.

Arizona State took the lead in the top of the second on a solo home run and a RBI double, but Black cut the lead to one on a solo shot over right field in the bottom of the third to make it a 2-1 game after three full.

Junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) gave the Beavers the lead with her two-run shot over center field to score junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.), who led off the inning with an infield single to second baseman Michelle Nulliner.

But Arizona State tied things up at three all in the top of the sixth on a two-out RBI single with runners on the corners, eventually forcing the game into extra innings.

The two teams battled back and forth, both getting base runners on, but the Beavers started off the 10th with a single from Chisholm. Sophomore Nikki Chandler (Houston, Texas) advanced Chisholm into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) singled to put runners on the corners. Arizona State intentionally walked Roderfeld to load the bases before Kutz scored Chisholm on a one-out grounder up the middle.

Freshman Marina Demore (Vancouver, British Columbia) was the pitcher of record after throwing 4.0 total innings on two appearances to improve to 2-3 on the season. Demore only gave up two hits and struck out a pair. Dyer started the game and threw 1.1 innings, facing four in the second with sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) throwing the remaining 4.2 innings with three strikeouts.

Arizona State’s Hillary Bach was charged with the complete game loss, making her record 22-6 with all four runs scored earned.

Oregon State closes out the season at No. 13 California. The three-game series begins on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Follow these games live through GameTracker or on Twitter – OregonStateSB.
