Perez Scores Seventh-Place Finish In Decathlon At Pac-10 Championships

Trent Perez scored a lifetime-best during the two-day Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships, finishing seventh overall with a score of 6874 points in Berkeley. Oregon's Ashton Eaton won with a total of 8154 points. Perez picked up two points for the Bruins' team total and the team heads into the main meet sixth overall.
During the final day of the decathlon, Perez picked up two lifetime-best marks and one season-best performances en route to his career score in the 10-event competition. He started the day off with the eighth-fastest time in the high hurdles (16.13) for 718 points. That time was a lifetime-best. He followed that up with another lifetime-best, this time in the discus with a seventh-place throw of 111-0 (541 points). The pole vault saw Perez finish fourth overall with a clearance of 15-3 (804 points). He then threw a season-best 162-0 in the javelin for the sixth-best throw of the day and 579 points. He ended the day in the runner-up position in the 1500m, running 4:27.39 for 762 points.
The rest of the men's track and field team will begin the post-season next weekend when they travel to Berkeley for the main part of the Pac-10 Championships May 15-16.
