Arizona's Koria Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and Washington's Lawrie Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

May 10, 2010

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA sophomore catcher/infielder Lini Koria was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON senior pitcher Danielle Lawrie was named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week, for May 3-9, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Koria, a native of Carson, Calif., hit for a .545 average over the weekend, tallying six hits and six RBI. In the first game of the Wildcats' series with Oregon, Koria went 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored two runs in UA's 8-3 victory. In game two of the series, Koria went 2-for-5, including one home run. She finished off the weekend by knocking in five RBI in the rubber match game, including belting her fourth grand slam of the season. She also drew a walk in the 11-0 win, and was one of two Wildcats to reach base in every plate appearance.

Lawrie went 3-0 over the weekend to give Washington its first Conference title since 2000, throwing two shutouts including her fourth no-hitter of the season. The Langley, B.C. native allowed just one run and six hits in 20 innings pitched. She struck out 11 in each game and walked just three all weekend. Lawrie is now just 11 strikeouts shy of Alicia Hollowell's Pac-10 career strikeout record. In game one of the series against the Cardinal, Lawrie did not allow a hit in five innings of work, striking out 11 and walking just one in an 8-0 victory. On Saturday, Lawrie also helped her cause at the plate, hitting a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Huskies a 2-1 win. On Sunday she allowed just one hit in eight innings and struck out 10 for her nation-leading 19th shutout of the season. Lawrie has now struck out 10 or more in eight of the last nine games.

This marks Koria's first career weekly honor and Arizona's 131st all-time. With this week's accolade, Lawrie extends her all-time Conference softball weekly honors record to 17. The award is Washington's 77th overall.
