IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado senior Kenyon Neuman earned his fourth academic all-conference honor to lead the Buffs on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field team, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Neuman, a Bend, Ore. native, earned his bachelor's degree in finance and graduated last week. He earned his first honor on the academic team in 2007 as a member of the first team and has been on the second team the last three years. In total, CU had 30 student-athletes earn a spot on the team; 18 on the first team and 12 on the second team.
Seniors Kaity Kark and Chynna McCall each earned their third honor on the academic squad. Kark, who hails from Highlands Ranch, Colo., earned her third mention on the first team. She is majoring in mechanical engineering and will graduate in December. McCall, an Aurora, Colo. native, is a three-time member of the second team. She graduated last week with a bachelor's degree in psychology and linguistics.
Three other seniors earned spots on the team. Patrick Bachmann (throws) and Kathleen Majewski (jumps) were named to the first team, while Jordan Kyle (distance) earned his first honor on the second team.
To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
Overall, 17 Buffs were named to the first team, and 13 were named to the second team; 21 of the 30 honorees are set to compete during the postseason for CU.
Colorado will travel to the 14th annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship May 14-16 at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo. Live results will be available at the Big 12 website (www.big12sports.com) and on the Flash Results webpage (www.flashresults.com).
