Megan Langenfeld Named Top 10 Finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year Award

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Senior Megan Langenfeld has been named a Top 10 finalist for the 2010 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) on Wednesday.

The award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. Past winners of the award include former Bruin Stacey Nuveman (2002).

The final three finalists will be announced on May 26, while the winner of the 2010 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award will be announced prior to the start of the Women's College World Series.

At the plate, Langenfeld leads the Bruins in batting average (.516), runs batted in (44), slugging (1.022), walks (33), hit by pitches (10) and on base percentage (.664). She is also tied for second with 13 home runs, solo second with 37 runs scored and fourth with eight doubles.

In the circle, Langenfeld is 8-1 with three saves, a 0.86 earned run average and 45 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings. In Pac-10 play, the senior is 4-0 with two saves, a 0.46 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings, allowing just two runs.

The fifth-ranked Bruins take on the third-ranked Arizona Wildcats in Tucson this weekend in the regular-season finale for both teams. Game times are 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Gametracker and live audio will be available at
