Eric Mina and Steve Desimone on CSN Bay Area's Chronicle Live Friday
May 13, 2010
BERKELEY - Cal junior men's golfer Eric Mina and Golden Bears head coach Steve Desimone will be guests on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area's Chronicle Live television show this Friday, May 14 (5-6 p.m. PT). Mina became only the second Cal men's golfer to ever win the Pac-10 individual title in the 51-year history of the event last month, while Desimone is in his 31st season at Cal and led the Bears to an NCAA championship in 2004.
The show, which is produced in partnership with the San Francisco Chronicle sports department, also replays on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area at 11 p.m. and Comcast SportsNet California at 6 p.m. and midnight. Chronicle Live is also available on Comcast Digital Cable's ON DEMAND Channel 1. In addition, a live stream of the show can be viewed online from 5-6 p.m. at CSNBayArea.com.
Mina came back from four shots off the lead on the final day of the 2010 Pac-10 Championship to capture medalist honors, joining current PGA Tour pro Charlie Wi (1995) as the only Golden Bears to ever win the event. He finished the 72-hole tournament at 16-under par and was the only player in the field to shoot four consecutive rounds of 68 or better (65-68-67-68 - 216), including a career-best 65 in the opening round.
Mina's Pac-10 performance wrapped up an outstanding month of April in which he was named the Pac-10 Men's Golfer of the Month, marking the second time he has won the honor this season. Mina posted a 69.0 stroke average over 10 rounds in April and finished the month with six consecutive rounds of 68 or better.
The month continued what has been an outstanding 2009-10 campaign for Mina, who is currently ranked No. 23 in the nation by Golfstat and No. 34 according to Golf Week. Mina has posted a team-best 70.5 stroke average this season and is the only member of the Cal squad to have played in all 12 events and 36 rounds in 2009-10. In addition to his victory at the Pac-10's, he was also a winner of the Spartan Classic last September and leads the squad with five top-10 finishes. Mina has been the team's top finisher in seven of 12 events, including each of the last three.
Mina and his teammates are next in action at the NCAA San Diego Regional hosted by San Diego State May 20-22 at the par-72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif. The top five clubs and the low individual from a non-qualifying team at each of six regional tournaments across the nation will advance to the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships hosted by the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Other guests scheduled to appear on Friday's Chronicle Live include Geoff Blum (Houston Astros Third Baseman), Ann Killion (CSN BayArea.com), Steve Konroyd (Comcast SportsNet Chicago Blackhawks Analyst), Evgeni Nabokov (San Jose Sharks) and Mychael Urban (CSN Bay Area.com MBL Insider).
