Gymnasts to Walk in Relay for Life this Weekend
May 13, 2010
For the sixth straight spring, the Oregon State gymnastics team is set to participate in the Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society, Friday night, May 15.
Members of the gymnastics team will take turns walking around OSU’s Memorial Union quad from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday in an effort to raise money for the fight against cancer.
The Beavers have set a goal to raise $2,000 for the cause and they’ll have a bake sale at their camp site to help meet their goal.
“I initially got involved because it was a tradition for our team to participate,” junior Jen Kesler said. “Claire (Pierce) originally spearheaded the Relay for us and as she approached graduation I wanted to get more involved. This is a disease that affects us all ... my best friend’s dad – who is like a second dad to me – has struggled with cancer recently. It just hits close to home for me. This is an event that we all look forward to every year and between this event and what we do with our Pink Out meet each year, I’m really proud of the efforts of the Oregon State gymnastics program toward finding the cure.”
Approximately 80 teams of supporters will participate in OSU’s Relay for Life.
