BERKELEY - Senior pitcher Marissa Drewrey has been a fixture in the circle for the past four years. Thanks to her 20 strikeouts, which she achieved halfway through the 2010 season, Drewrey moved into fifth place on the all-time strikeout list with 644 career Ks at Cal. In 2009, she was third in the Pac-10 with 241 strikeouts, fourth with a 2.14 ERA and fifth in opposing batting average (.212). Drewrey was an All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection and made the NFCA All-Pacific Region second team in 2008 after posting a 29-19 record. During her freshman year in 2007, she finished with an 11-8 overall record. Hailing from Oakdale, Calif., Drewrey will graduate from Cal with a degree in art practice this fall.
CalBears.com: What is your best Cal story or favorite Cal experience?
Marissa Drewrey: I hate to say it, but going to Super Regionals in Florida two years in a row. It was heartbreaking to lose both times we were there, but it was definitely a great experience, especially to complete against the number-one team in the country.
CalBears.com: What will you miss most about Cal?
MD: I am really going to miss my roommate, Hana Cutura, who played volleyball at Cal, and is graduating and moving back to Croatia at the end of May.
CalBears.com: What are your career plans and what are you plans after graduation?
MD: I want to continue giving pitching lessons, but I definitely want to further my education and start a career in interior design. I've already started redesigning friends' houses as soon as I finished my finals.
CalBears.com: Has Cal lived up to or has it been different or better than the expectations you had of it as a freshman?
MD: It has been different, but it has been a great life experience. I have learned a lot from it.
CalBears.com: What has been the most embarrassing thing in your years at Cal?
MD: Probably a couple years ago when I was hanging out with the team. It started raining so I ran up the steps to Taylor Kelly's apartment with my hands in my parka and I slipped, fell and face planted into the steps. I had to ice my face with a bag of frozen veggies.
CalBears.com: What is your favorite place to eat or go in Berkeley?
MD: Any sushi place. I'm obsessed.
CalBears.com: What advice would you give to freshmen?
MD: Go to class.
CalBears.com: What was the best class you took here?
CalBears.com: What made you choose Cal?
MD: I wanted to play softball in the best conference in the country as well as get a great education.
CalBears.com: Do you have a favorite game or play or road trip?
CalBears.com: What are your other favorite Cal sports? Do you attend a lot of that sports' games?
MD: Baseball! Volleyball, too.
