Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - Junior GiOnna DiSalvatore went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in, while senior Kaila Shull had a pair of hits, as the fifth-ranked Bruins closed the regular season with a 6-4 victory over #3 Arizona on Saturday at Hillenbrand Stadium.

The Bruins finish the regular year with a 40-11 record and in second place in the Pac-10 with a 14-7 mark. The Wildcats close with a 43-11 record and a 13-8 mark in league.

Senior Megan Langenfeld improved to 10-1 on the season, striking out three in 5 2/3 innings of relief and allowing two runs, five hits and two walks. She retired the final five batters of the game, including the side in order in the seventh.

Arizona scored first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Brittany Lastrapes was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the first and Lauren Schutzler singled to left. After both runners moved up a base, Stacie Chambers tripled to right-center to bring home a pair of teammates to make it 2-0.

The Bruins rallied with three runs in the fourth to take the lead. After Arizona hurler Sarah Akamine got the first two outs of the inning, she struck out sophomore Samantha Camuso, but Camuso would reach base on a wild pitch to keep the inning going and was replaced by junior Grace Murray. Shull followed with a single to right and a walk to freshman B.B. Bates loaded the bases. That brought up DiSalvatore, who laced a single up the middle to plate Murray and Shull, and when the ball went all the way to the outfield wall, Bates came around to score to make it 3-2 Bruins.

UCLA added three more runs in the sixth. Shull doubled to left-center, and one out later, DiSalvatore was walked intentionally. Freshman Charlotte Dolan then recorded a pinch-hit single up the middle to score Shull to make it 4-2. Langenfeld followed with a double to left-center to plate DiSalvatore and junior Monica Harrison, who re-entered the game for Dolan, to increase the margin to 6-2.

The Wildcats cut the deficit to 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer by Lastrapes with Karissa Buchanan aboard. But Langenfeld retired Arizona 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the victory.

The Bruins find out where their postseason journey begins on Sunday when the NCAA Selection Show airs on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
