GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Inspired by the sturdy bronze-medal performance from the Varsity Four, all other Stanford shells followed suit with bronze-medal results at the 2010 Pac-10 Rowing Championships on the waters of Lake Natoma.

The I Eight, II Eight and Frosh Eight all reached the podium as well, as each of the four races finished in the same order with Washington claiming a sweep of all gold medals and California grabbing all silvers.

'Our men raced within themselves in today's championship,' said Stanford Director of Rowing and men's head coach Craig Amerkhanian. 'We have three weeks of training before the IRA national championship regatta in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. It will be our time to work with enthusiasm and efficacy as we strive to gain much needed seconds in all three eights. Today the varsity four was our crew of the day.'

The Varsity Four held third place for the entire race, and as the race went on continued to build distance between itself and the fourth-place boat from Oregon. The Cardinal crossed the line in 7:08.2 behind the Huskies and Golden Bears.

The Frosh Eight stalked California from the third position for much of the first race of the day, trailing by less than a boatlength with just 500 meters to go. But California extended its advantage over the final 500 meters, while Stanford held onto third place, crossing the line in 6:04.0, seven seconds behind second-place California and four seconds ahead of fourth-place Oregon State.

The II Eight finished third in a time of 6:01.2 to claim its bronze medal.

Rounding out the day, the Cardinal I Eight held firmly on to third place throughout its 2,000-meter race to claim bronze.

The Cardinal will now head to the IRA National Championships, set for June 3-5 in Cherry Hills, N.J.

Notes: Jake Cornelius '05 won the US National pair trials over the weekend in Princeton, N.J. David Banks '05 was third, Silas Stafford '07 was fifth and Mark Murphy '09 and Alex Osborne '09 were twelfth.
