Beavers Selected for IRA Championships
May 19, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's crew team has been invited to compete in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships after earning an at-large selection to the regatta on Wednesday.
The Beavers will be taking the varsity 8+, freshman 8+ and open 4 crews to the IRA Championships.
'This year the team knew selection to the IRA was going to be difficult. The IRA is accepting six fewer teams this year, so the stakes have been raised,' head coach Steve Todd said. 'The varsity put together a better race at Pac-10s and was significantly closer to Stanford, who automatically qualified as the third place crew.'
This is Oregon State's 17th consecutive appearance at the IRA Championship.
The No. 18 varsity crew was chosen as an at-large bid to compete with 17 other schools, all of whom were ranked in the Top 20 US Rowing Collegiate Poll last week. Oregon State has raced five of the teams this season.
The IRA Championships are scheduled for June 3-5 and will be held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. For more information on the IRA Championships, visit row2k.com.
