Cavestany Adds All-Region Honors
May 20, 2010
Starkville, Miss. – Freshman utility Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) added All-Pacific Region Second Team softball honors, announced Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
She was named All-Pac-10 Second Team and Pac-10 All-Freshman Team on Wednesday, earning the lone rookie team selection and joining junior catcher/utility Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) on the second squad to pace the Beavers.
Cavestany finished the season leading the Beavers at the plate with a .350 batting average, racking up a team-leading 56 hits, including 11 doubles, two triples and seven home runs, adding 34 RBI and 36 runs. She split time at third base, left and center field, short stop and first base throughout her 53 games started and played.
The All-Region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
Cavestany becomes the first Oregon State softball player to be named to an All-Region team since Paige Lowe in 2008.
