NCAA Regionals: Day Two - Practice
May 21, 2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 11-seeded California softball team held practice at Buckeye Field on Thursday afternoon in preparation for this weekend's Columbus Regional. The Golden Bears worked in the batting cages and spent time on defensive drills and in the batters box to get a feel for the field.
In order to maximize their on-field time, the Bears warmed up on fields adjacent to Buckeye Stadium. They rotated through stations of tees and pitches from the coaches in the OSU batting cages.
Once it was time for Cal to take the field, the Bears split up into outfield and infield to get adjusted to the field as well as how the ball plays off the wooden wall.
While the coaches and team administrators attended an NCAA meeting on the OSU campus, the team headed back to the hotel to change for dinner. The entire team and its entourage of various Cal Athletics employees were back on the bus for a team dinner at the local Buca di Peppo. As the waiters seated the Bears, they were surprised to see that the entire Bucknell team was seated a nearby table.
After dinner, it was back to the hotel to turn in early for Friday's big day of play.
