TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior co-captain outfielder Kole Calhoun has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced today. It is the seventh time this season that a Sun Devil has won a weekly award from the Pac-10 Conference. Calhoun joins Zack MacPhee (twice), Drew Maggi and Riccio Torrez as Players of the Week, while Brady Rodgers and Jake Borup have each been named Pitcher of the Week.
It is the first career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Calhoun and the 95th all-time for Arizona State, most in the Pac-10. Calhoun was also named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball.
Calhoun led the Sun Devils to a win over Arizona and a 2-1 series win over Oregon State last weekend. The senior outfielder was 6-for-12 at the plate for a .500 batting average. In four games, Calhoun had three home runs, drove in seven runs, walked six times, slugged an impressive 1.333 and had an on-base percentage of .667. In Friday's 10-4 win over the Beavers, Calhoun reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances, including hitting a home run and driving in three. On the season, Calhoun leads the team in home runs (13), which ranks second in the Conference.
