NCAA Draws Revealed For Husky Trio
May 25, 2010
ATHENS, Ga. - Three Husky standouts are set to begin their individual NCAA tournament runs this week at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Venise Chan and Denise Dy are among the 16 top seeds in the NCAA Singles Championship while Dy and Joyce Ardies are entered in the NCAA Doubles draw.
Singles play begins on Wednesday with 64 women battling for the national title. Chan is making her third-straight appearance but is still looking for her first victory. She is seeded No. 9-16 and will open against SMU's Marta Lesniak at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time. Despite having a protected seeding, it's hardly an easy draw for Chan, as Lesniak is ranked 28th in the nation while Chan is ranked 15th.
Dy, ranked 10th nationally, also has a No. 9-16 seeding attached to her name, and will face Pichittra Thongdach of Boise State in her NCAA Championship debut. Thongdach comes in ranked 49th overall. That match is scheduled for a 12 noon Eastern start.
Both Chan and Dy had great success in the season's two previous national championships, as Chan made the semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships and the quarterfinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships, while Dy made the semis at the National Indoors.
Ardies and Dy will also be making their first appearance in the NCAA doubles draw, which begins on Thursda, May 27. The pair can earn All-America honors with a pair of victories, but it will be quite a challenge as they open against the No. 1-seeds, Natalie Pluskota and Caitlin Whorisky of Tennessee.
