Meet John Braun

Redshirt freshman John Braun is moving to defense this season taking on a position as a defensive end after coming to Oregon State as an offensive lineman. It's been a fast transition but he hasn't wasted anytime and has jumped head first into learning the ins and outs of defense. He's gained experience during his redshirt year and is ready to make a contribution to the team this season.
What was it like earning all-state honors two years in a row in high school?
'It was an honor. It was great!'
What was it like winning the state title in high school?
'It was exciting. It was my senior year and getting to win it with my teammates was just exciting.'
How have the other guys been welcoming you onto the team?
'They're all nice, they're all really welcoming. If you need help they're willing to help and guide you.'
What has the transition been like from offense to defense and do you miss playing offense?
'It's different but technique wise it's not too bad. I miss offense a little but I like defense.'
What was the transition like from high school to Oregon State?
'Football's a lot faster, there are a lot more plays and the guys are way bigger. As far as school you have to prioritize your time better and be on top of your classes.'
Do you feel the redshirt year benefitted you as a player?
'It gave me more experience to come in with and it helped me out a lot.'
It is difficult to juggle school and football?
'For me a little bit but I'm learning and it's getting better.'
What's it like playing for Coach Riley?
'I love it. He's a great guy and an awesome coach.'
What's your favorite thing about OSU?
'Probably the atmosphere, with the coaches and everyone around, it's like a family.'
What does having a football scholarship mean to you?
'It's a big deal; being fortunate enough to have your school paid for is a great thing.'
