Primm, Crawford & Patterson Advance On Day One Of Pre-National Qualifying

Distance runners Cory Primm, Scott Crawford and Marlon Patterson each advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective events on day one of the NCAA Pre-National Qualifying Meet in Austin, TX.

Primm. the No. 1 800m runner in the NCAA, led from start to finish in the first heat of the 800m to move on to Friday's quarterfinal as he won in a time of 1:48.38. Junior Scott Crawford was fourth; also in heat one, with a time of 1:48.98. He was 20th overall and advances to the quarterfinal with Primm. Sophomore Jonathan Simmons was fifth in heat five and 29th overall (1:50.06).

Senior Marlon Patterson was sixth in heat three and 21st overall in the 1500m (3:43.43), while junior Alex Crabill finished seventh in heat two and 31st overall (3:50.53). Patterson advances to Saturday's quarterfinal round.

In the 10,000m final, junior Kent Morikawa was 26th with a time of 30:32.19, while Marco Anzures did not finish the race.

Bo Taylor was 14th in the shot put with a mark of 56-4.75. He advanced to the final, but strained his pectoral muscle and could not take his final three throws. His status for Saturday's discus competition has not yet been determined. Nigel Davies finished 42nd with a mark of 51-3.75. Freshman Carlo Valdes finished 37th in the javelin competition with a mark of 185-10. In the long jump, sophomore Nelson Rosario finished 23rd with a mark of 24-00.25.

Competition continues on Friday with the pole vault (C. DiCesare/Woepse), 800m quarterfinal (Primm/Crawford) and the steeplechase (D. Knight/S. Knight).
