Sporting News Ranks Team No. 15

May 27, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. -

The Sporting News has announced its preseason top 100 college football teams and the Oregon State Beavers check in at No. 15.  The Beavers ranking is the second-highest among Pac-10 Conference teams.

Oregon State will have an immediate opportunity to enhance that ranking when it starts the season Sat., Sept. 4 against No. 6 TCU at Cowboys Stadium in an ESPN nationally televised game.  ESPN will again feature the Beavers when they travel to No. 3 Boise State Sat., Sept. 25 as part of what the Network ranks as the most difficult non-conference schedule in the Pac-10 – OSU also hosts Louisville Sat., Sept. 18.

The 2010 Beavers feature an experienced team with nine returning starters, including 2010 Heisman Trophy candidate Jacquizz Rodgers and fellow postseason all-star candidates wide receiver James Rodgers, center Alex Linnenkohl and tackle Michael Philipp.  Defensively, seven starters return highlighted by Lott Award and Outland Trophy candidate defensive tackle Stephen Paea.   OSU also returns starting placekicker Justin Kahut, punter Johnny Hekker and longsnapper Marcus Perry.

Practice begins for the 2010 season Aug. 9.
