Stanford Wrestling Announces Incoming Freshman Class

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford head wrestling coach Jason Borrelli is pleased to announce the seven freshmen that will join the Cardinal team this fall, including the younger brother of 2010 NCAA All-American Nick Amuchastegui.

The class is comprised of Luke Amuchastegui (Talent, Ore./Phoenix), Galen McCleary (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Punahou), Kyle Pollock (Wiggins, Colo./Wiggins), Garrett Schaner (Big Rapids, Mich./Big Rapids), Dan Scherer (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), Matt Schneider (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) and Alan Yen (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga).

The seven-man class has combined to win three state championships, six runner-up finalists and six third-place finishes. Bringing home state titles were Amuchastegui (Oregon), McCleary (Hawai'i) and Scherer (Missouri).

Among the numerous awards this class has received, Pollack was honored as the 2009 male recipient of the High School Heisman. The award is presented to the nation's most esteemed high school senior male and female for excellence in academics, athletics and leadership.

The Cardinal is coming off a successful season for Borrelli, who was in his second year with the program in 2009-10. Stanford posted a 10-8-1 dual record and sent four wrestlers to the NCAA Championships in Omaha, Neb.
