La Tourette Wins 1500 to Cap Speed Challenge

IRVINE, Calif.-- Stanford's Chad La Tourette won the 1500-meter freestyle and alum Markus Rogan reached two finals to cap the Speedo Grand Challenge on Sunday.

La Tourette, the American record holder in the 800-meter short course, led the field in the 1500 long course event with a time of 15:14.43, 13 seconds ahead of Michael Klueh.

Rogan, a former Olympian, finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.93, behind Cal's David Russell (54.89) and was one of two alums in the 100 freestyle. Jason Dunford was the top Cardinal finisher with a time of 49.99, for third, while Rogan was fourth with a mark of 50.43. Jason's brother David, was seventh, followed by Aaron Wayne (eighth) and Jakob Allen (14th).

Stanford also had two swimmer reach the consolation finals in 100 back with Matt Thompson (sixth) and Andrew Saeta (eighth).

Bobby Bollier also reached the finals of the 200 butterfly.
