UCLA Women's Rowing Finishes 12th Overall at NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO - The UCLA women's rowing program finished 12th overall at the 2010 NCAA Championships on Sunday afternoon at Lake Natoma. The Bruins' varsity eight crew posted a third-place finish in the Petite Final, equating to a ninth-place overall finish.

The varsity eight finished behind first-place Michigan State (6:28.53) and Brown (6:32.60) in the Petite Final, clocking in at 6:33.72. UCLA finished ahead of Wisconsin (6:34.22), Washington (6:35.86) and Michigan (6:36.58) in its final varsity eight race of the season.

UCLA's second varsity eight finished third in a four-lane Third Final race on Sunday. UCLA, posting a time of 6:46.49, finished behind first-place Tennessee (6:41.50) and second place USC (6:43.99). Clemson clocked in at 6:50.77 for a fourth-place finish.

The Bruins' varsity four raced to a second-place finish in the Third Final. Ohio State crossed the finish line first with a time of 7:25.17, while UCLA (7:26.78) finished ahead of Washington State (7:31.32) and Tennessee (7:40.20).

Virginia earned the 2010 NCAA Women's Rowing Championship, posting an 87-point team total. California, Princeton, Stanford and Brown rounded out the championships top five spots, respectively. UCLA was one of six teams to compete in the weekend's 16-team field.

This spring marked the first season in which UCLA had ever earned a team berth to the NCAA Championships. The Bruins had previously sent an at-large varsity eight boat the NCAA Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
