June 1, 2010
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--University of Arizona softball players K'Lee Arredondo and Lauren Schuzler were named among student-athletes today honored for Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic squads.
Arredondo, a shortstop who graduated in May with a degree in psychology and a GPA of 3.55, earned her third consecutive first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honor and Schutzler, a junior history major with a GPA of 3.36, repeated as a second-team selection. Arredondo's honor came on the heels of her selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team last week.
Arredondo becomes Arizona's third softball player in history to win three Pac-10 academic honors, joining three-time first-team picks Jenny Dalton (1994, 1995, 1996) and Leah O'Brien (1994, 1995, 1997) and Nancy Evans (first-team in 1997 and 1998 and second-team in 1995).
Arredondo and Schutzler are engaged in some serious -athlete part of the student-athlete equation this week, in Oklahoma City with their teammates for the UA's 22nd trip to the Women's College World Series. UA begins its quest for an eighth NCAA Championship in opening-round play at 4 p.m. (Tucson) Thursday against Tennessee.
