Beavers On The Road - Day 1
June 2, 2010
SOMEWHERE OVER NEVADA – It was certainly a quick turnaround for the Oregon State baseball team after we found out the Beavers would be headed to the Gainesville Regional. The club bused to Portland Tuesday night and stayed overnight near the airport before two separate flights ferried the Beavers to Jacksonville.
Because of the relatively little time to plan, the team was forced on to two separate Southwest Airlines flight. The first flight took off at 6:05 a.m. bound for Las Vegas, and later on a direct flight to Jacksonville (this blog was written while en route to Las Vegas so we’ll have more from Jacksonville and Gainesville later). The first flight carried the coaching staff and some support staff members, including director of operations, Ron Northcutt, who has done a great job piecing together the travel schedule, as well as radio man Mike Parker.
The second flight took off 10 minutes later and was bound for Denver. All but about five players and a few support staff members were on that flight, and it will head to Jacksonville and land about 45 minutes after the coaching staff.
Can’t say the first flight offered much entertainment as the early departure time created an opportunity for some extra sleep. If not, a newspaper was in hand for staff on the flight as a good way to fill the two-hour flight. Of course, the next flight will be about four hours, so I’m sure we will all find a way to stay busy, again.
We’re beginning to descend and get ready for an hour layover in Las Vegas so it’s time to shut off the laptop and get ready. But we’ll have some longer blogs as the weekend continues, so make sure to stay tuned to osubeavers.com for more information. Of course, in addition to the daily blogs, we’ll have information about the regional, a regional page, and other various features from Florida.
