June 2, 2010
CHATTANOOGA - Eric Mina was selected to the Division I PING All-West Regional team on Wednesday announced at the 2010 NCAA Championships. He was one of 28 players selected to West squad and one of 153 players nationally across six regions.
The recognition added to a growing list of honors that the 2010 Pac-10 champion has received this season. He has previously picked up first-team All-Pac-10, team MVP and team Coaches Award selections. He was also named the Pac-10 Player of the Month twice this season, as well as the Golf World College Player of the Week and Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week once.
'He's definitely deserved all the honors he's won,' said head coach Steve Desimone.Mina became only the second Cal men's golfer to ever win the Pac-10 individual title in the 51-year history of the event in April, coming back from four shots off the lead on the final day to capture medalist honors. He finished the 72-hole tournament at 16-under par and was the only player in the field to shoot four consecutive rounds of 68 or better (65-68-67-68 - 216), including a career-best 65 in the opening round.
Mina has been the team's top golfer in seven of the team's first 13 tournaments this season and paces Cal with five top-10 finishes. He also won at the Spartan Golf Classic, while tying for fifth at the Arizona Intercollegiate, tying for sixth at the John A. Burns Invitational and tying for ninth at the Golfweek Collegiate Conference Challenge.
Mina and his teammates are currently in the midst of action at the NCAA Championships hosted by Chattanooga from June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
