Song Named Pac-10 Golfer Of The Year
June 2, 2010
USC sophomore Jennifer Song, who earned her second All-American first team honor after tying for fifth at the NCAA Championships and leading USC to within a stroke of first place, was voted Pac-10 Golfer of the Year, the Pac-10 announced on Wednesday (June 2).
In addition to Song's honor, Pac-10 coaches voted Arizona State freshman Jennifer Johnson Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Arizona head coach Laura Ianello Coach of the Year.
Song finished the season as the third-ranked individual in the country, according to Golfweek. She is USC's first back-to-back honoree since Mikaela Parmlid in 2002 and 2003. Song posted two wins this season at the Mason Rudolph Championship and the Stanford Intercollegiate, and added four other top 5 finishes, including a second place finish at the Pac-10 Championships. Her single-season 71.65 stroke average was second all-time at USC, behind only her freshman average of 71.55. Her career average of 71.59, as well as her 15 career rounds in the 60s, are USC records.
Song is USC's second consecutive Pac-10 Golfer of the Year. Junior Lizette Salas won the honor last year.
