June 3, 2010
STANFORD, Calif.- Senior Lindsay Burdette and freshman Mallory Burdette, members of Stanford's 2010 NCAA champion women's tennis team, will be guests on tonight's edition of Chronicle Live (5-6 p.m.) on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
The Burdette sisters played key roles in leading Stanford to its 16th NCAA championship and first since a dominant three-year title run ended in 2006.
Trailing 5-4 in the third set, Mallory Burdette rattled off three straight games to secure a thrilling 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-5 victory at the No. 3 spot of the lineup and clinch Stanford's dramatic 4-3 win over Florida. After match point, Mallory was tackled hard to the ground by Lindsay in a celebration that ranks as one of the most exciting moments in Stanford history.
Lindsay Burdette won her singles match that afternoon as well, and six days later closed out her career by capturing the NCAA Doubles championship with partner Hilary Barte. Burdette has received All-America accolades in doubles all four years in addition to earning singles recognition as a freshman.
