Michael Weaver to Compete in U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Monday

BERKELEY - Cal's Michael Weaver will attempt to qualify for a spot in the 2010 U.S. Open Championship field when he participates in sectional qualifying at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento on Monday. The 87-player field is scheduled to play all 36 holes of sectional qualifying on Monday, with the top four players earning a spot in the 156-player field at the U.S. Open to be played June 17-20 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Weaver is slated for a 7:36 a.m. PDT tee off time for his first round on Monday, while his second 18 holes are slated to begin at 1:06 p.m. PDT. He advanced to sectional qualifying after shooting a round of 71 during local qualifying action at the Riverbend Golf Club in Madera on May 10.
Weaver is attempting to join Byeong-Hun 'Ben' An, who has a signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cal men's golf team in 2010-11 in the 2010 U.S. Open field. An qualified for the 2010 U.S. Open when he became the youngest player to ever win the U.S. Amateur at the age of 17 last August.
