27 Golden Bears Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors

BERKELEY - Twenty-seven members of Cal's track & field team have earn places on the Pac-10 All-Academic squad, including first-team selections Alison Greggor, Deborah Maier and Kristen Meister, the conference announced Monday.
Greggor, a senior with a 3.73 GPA as a psychology and Spanish double major, ran Cal's second-fastest time of the year in the 5000 meters, covering the distance in 16:25.88 at the Stanford Invitational in March. The mark ranks seventh on Cal's all-time performers list.
Maier owns a 3.77 GPA in political science and received the team's Golden Bear Award last month for having the highest GPA on the women's track & field team. An NCAA Championships qualifier in the 5000 meters, the sophomore owns a best of 16:15.39 in the event this spring. Maier also captured the indoor conference title in the 3000 meters in March and was a first-team All-Pac-10 choice in cross country during the fall.
Meister led the Bears in the high jump this year with a clearance of 5-10.75, which stands No. 3 on Cal's career list. The senior has a 3.75 GPA in history.
Matusak, who has a 3.36 GPA in psychology and integrative biology, set the Cal record in the 1500 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary meet when he ran 3:39.59 to qualify for the NCAA Championships this weekend in Eugene, Ore. Earlier this year, he set a school indoor record in the mile (3:58.36) and won the MSPF indoor title in the 3000 meters (7:59.67).
Davis, a sophomore, has a 3.61 GPA in nutritional science. Her time of 35:26.30 in the 10,000 meters from the Pac-10 Championships ranks eighth in Cal history. Morris has a 3.76 as an undeclared major. The sophomore set Cal's season best in the discus (155-4) in the Big Meet vs. Stanford. Raub is a senior pole vaulter with a best of 13-0.25, and she has a 3.66 GPA in geography.
The following Bears gained a spot on the honorable mention team: sophomore Aaron Burney, senior Michael Coe, senior Yosef Ghebray, sophomore Ryan Holmes, junior Austin Jett, senior Kari Karlsson, senior Patrick Kowalsky, junior Kevin Kuechler, senior Matt K. Miller, senior Miles Palacios, sophomore Sebastian Sam, senior Ryan Shuler, junior Kayla Dixon, sophomore Taylor Dutch, junior Cyrena Giordano, junior Dantia Hudson, senior Mercedes Marchbanks, junior Linda Oseso, junior Allison Stokke and senior Rowena Tam.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
