Jack Brown Earns Academic All-America

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona men’s swimmer Jack Brown was named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-America First Team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


Brown, a 10-time All-American who holds the school record in the 400 Individual Medley, graduated in May with a Psychology major with a minor in Political Science and a 3.57 G.P.A. A member of the 2009-10 USA Swimming National Team, he won the 200-I.M. and the 400-I.M. at the 2009 U.S. Open.


A three-time member of the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic Team, Brown helped Arizona finish third at the NCAA Division I Championship Meet in 2010. Named as the National Swimmer of the Week in late January, he was also a member of the Wildcats’ national championship team as a sophomore.


To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.


On the 15-member ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Men’s At-Large University Division first team, there are five swimmers, three ice hockey players, two wrestlers and two lacrosse players. Three members of the first team have perfect 4.00 G.P.A.’s while one has a 4.07. The average of the 15 members of the Academic All-America® University Division first team was an amazing 3.83 G.P.A.       


 Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
