Botched Handoff Dooms Men's 4x100m Relay At NCAA Championships
June 12, 2010
A botched handoff between the second and third leg of the men's 4x100m relay resulted in a DNF for the Bruins on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, OR.
The Bruins weren't the only 4x100m team to drop the baton as Texas A&M and Kentuckky suffered the same fate.
Jamal Alston led off then handed the baton to Maxwell Dyce. Dyce was running well, but the exchange between him and Stan Griffin could not be completed, causing the Bruins to finish the race with a DNF. Griffin was running in place of Karlton Rolle who could not run because of a hamstring injury.
Despite today's disappointing finish, the men's 4x100m relay has had a banner year, winning the Pac-10 title for the second consecutive year and running the fastest time for a Bruin squad since 1998 (39.43).
With today's meet coming to an end, the Bruins bid farewell to seniors Brandon Smith and Griffin.
Cory Primm was the sole scorer for the Bruins after finishing fifth in the 800m final on Friday.
Team scores will be posted after the completion of the meet.
