LOS ANGELES - UCLA head women's volleyball coach Mike Sealy has announced the signing of 6-3, Brazilian middle blocker Mariana Aquino.

'Mariana is a well-rounded volleyball player who is going to increase our skill set in the middle and has the ball control and understanding of the game to play multiple positions,' Sealy said. 'She has played at a high level in Brazil and has the potential to be an immediate impact player for us.'

Aquino has been selected to the Brazilian Junior National Team multiple times, helping her squads to a fifth-place finish in 2007 and 2008 and a third-place finish in 2006 at the Junior Team Championships. In 2008, Aquino finished first at the Local Junior Team Championship at Minas Tenis Club and second at the National League School Championship. She was also the captain of the third-place National Youth Championship team in 2007.

Aquino has most recently played club volleyball with Minas Tenis Club, along with Positivo, Circulo Militar/Dom Bosco and Parana. She placed first in the 2004 and 2005 Parana Cup and the '05 Minas Tenis Club Cup, also being named Best Blocker at the 2006 Minas Tenis Club Volley Championship.
