Swimmers Ready For Santa Clara Grand Prix

TUCSON, Ariz. - Coming off a successful Southwest Classic Invitational meet, the Arizona swimming and diving program continues its preparations this summer as it heads to the Santa Clara Grand Prix meet hosted by USA Swimming.


A strong field of Olympians are expected to compete in Santa Clara this weekend including UA's Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or, Jean Basson, Nicolas Nilo, Jake Tapp, Darian Townsend and Simon Burnett.


The competition will follow the traditional meet schedule of morning prelims and evening finals. The full competition schedule can be found online. Finals begin at 4 p.m. PT on Thursday and at 5 p.m. PT, Friday through Sunday. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. PT, Friday through Sunday.
Competition footage from the meet the will be broadcast by both Universal Sports and Swimnetwork.com. Universal Sports will air footage from the finals Saturday, June 19 through Sunday, June 20 on its digital cable channel. Swimnetwork.com will provide a LIVE online stream of the Universal Sports broadcast. In addition, Swimnetwork.com will webcast the finals on Thursday and Friday, and the prelims from each day of competition.


A few events to track in Santa Clara are the men's 100 breaststroke which will feature Marcus Titus, Clark Burckle, Bart Steninger as well as Ford Aquatic's Michael Alexandrov all in the top 15 on the psych sheet. Another event to track on the men's side is the 100 freestyle with UA's Nilo, Burnett and Shapira Bar-Or and Ford Aquatic's Matt Grevers in the top 10. On the women's side, check out UA's Lara Jackson as she holds the top ranked time in the women's 50 free.  She's followed by Ford Aquatic's Christine Magnuson who is third on the list.
