2010 UW Men's Soccer Schedule Includes Several NW Rivalries
June 18, 2010
The 2010 fall sports season is inching ever closer and, as always, one of the first sports to get underway at the UW is soccer.
The Washington men's soccer team opens its 2010 campaign down Interstate 5 in Portland, where the Huskies will take on Evansville and Northern Illinois in the Nike Invitational.
The first home match of the year features an in-state rival as Gonzaga visits Husky Soccer Stadium on Sept. 22.
The UW hosts its annual tournament, the Husky Fever Classic, on Sept. 24 and 26, when the Huskies take on Seattle University and UC Davis.
'The 2010 schedule will be an exciting one and will feature strong teams from both the west and midwest region,' said 19th-year head coach Dean Wurzberger. 'Our non-conference games include northwest rivalry games against Portland, Gonzaga and SeattleU. We also get good non-conference tests from Big West Conference opponents Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and UC Davis. As always, I expect the Pac-10 season to be very balanced and very competitive.'
Pac-10 Conference play begins on the road vs. UCLA and San Diego State Oct. 1 and 3 while the first home conference matches are the following weekend vs. Stanford and California.
In men's soccer, each Pac-10 team takes on the other five conference teams twice, once each at home and on the road. For travel purposes, Washington is partnered with Oregon State, with the other two travel-partner pairs being UCLA-San Diego State, and Stanford-Cal.
