Lindsay Burdette Honored With Toyo Tires Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete Award

STANFORD, Calif.- Lindsay Burdette has been honored as the Pac-10 Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, presented by Toyo Tires, league officials announced earlier this week.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are also factored into the voting for the award.
Scholar-Athletes of the Year in each sport will receive a commemorative award. Toyo Tires will donate $1,000 to the scholarship funds of the institution's athletic department of each winner in recognition of their accomplishments.
Burdette was this year's NCAA Doubles champion with partner Hilary Barte, capturing Stanford's 13th overall collegiate doubles title and first since 2005. The Jackson, Ga., native earned All-America accolades in doubles for the fourth straight year. Burdette completed three NCAA Tournament team matches- all victories- helping lead Stanford to the national championship.
Burdette finished 19-16 overall and 14-11 in dual matches, playing at the No. 2 spot. After a stretch in which she lost nine of 10, Burdette finished the year by winning six of her last nine and was a factor in the postseason both on and off the court as a team leader. The nation's No. 2 doubles team, Burdette and Barte finished with a 42-6 overall record and 22-4 mark in duals while winning three other doubles titles (ITA Northwest Regionals, ITA National Indoors, NCTC Classic).
An American Studies major, Burdette sports a 3.11 GPA.
A Scholar-Athlete of the Year is named in each of the Pac-10's 22 sponsored sports. The Pac-10, in cooperation with corporate partner Toyo Tires, established the 'Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, presented by Toyo Tires' during the 2008-09 academic year.
