Track & Field Athletes Travel for Summer Competitions

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Several Washington State University track and field student-athletes will be competing around the world this summer.
This week, six Cougars will be competing at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships and at the USA Junior Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. The competition begins Wednesday, June 23 and runs through Sunday, June 27.
Competing at the USA Championships are Jeshua Andersfon (junior, Woodland Hills, Calif.) in the 400m hurdles, Trent Arrivey (senior, Woodinville) in the high jump, Stephan Scott-Ellis (freshman, Tacoma) in the triple jump, and Anna Layman (junior, Spokane Valley) in the 800m. Washington State alumni set to compete include Bernard Lagat in the 5000m, Ian Waltz and Drew Ulrick in the discus, and Blessing Ufodiama in the women's triple jump.
Greg Hornsby (freshman, Moreno Valley, Calif.) will be competing in the 100m and 200m dashes, and Shaquana Logan (freshman, Tacoma) will be competing in 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles and long jump at the Junior Championships.
Anderson, Layman and javelin thrower Marissa Tschida (junior, Missoula, Mont.) have been selected to represent Team USA at the NACAC (North American, Central American, Caribbean) Under-23 Championships in Miramar, Fla., July 9-11. Anderson will compete in the 400m hurdles and be among the pool athletes for the men's 4x400m relay.
Holly Parent (freshman, Victoria, British Columbia) will high jump at the Canadian World Junior Trials in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, July 2-4. All winners at this meet will earn an automatic berth to the 13th Annual IAAF World Junior Championships, July 19-25, also in Moncton.
Also competing for a trip to the World Junior Championships is quartermiler Shawna Fermin (freshman, Victorville, Calif.). Fermin will compete at the Trinidad and Tobago NAAA National Championships, June 25-27, at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
