Volleyball Maps Out 2010 Schedule
June 21, 2010
SEATTLE - The Huskies have lined up yet another ambitious schedule for the 2010 volleyball season, spending nearly all the preseason on the road in SEC and Big East country before battling through the Pac-10 conference season. Washington will be in pursuit of a ninth-consecutive NCAA tourney berth under head coach Jim McLaughlin.
Seattle will once again be a key destination in the postseason as Hec-Ed Pavilion will play host to one of the four NCAA Regional Finals in 2010, meaning one of the Final Four participants will punch their ticket with two wins in Seattle on December 10-11. Washington last hosted Regionals in 2008.
The season begins on August 27 at home against Mercer as part of The Invitational At Seattle, Washington co-hosted by the UW and Seattle U. Washington then hosts Eastern Washington the following night, Aug. 28, before hitting the road for the next month.
This year's installment of the Northwest Challenge rotates to Boise, Idaho, where the Broncos of Boise State welcome in the Huskies, Gonzaga, and Portland State for a round robin tournament the first week of September. Washington has won the first two editions of the tournament.
Washington then heads all the way out to Athens, Georgia for the Bulldog Invitational at the University of Georgia. The Huskies and Bulldogs will meet on Friday night, Sept. 10. Washington will then have a double-header the next day against Georgia Tech and Florida Gulf Coast. The Yellow Jackets made the NCAA tourney in 2009.
The Huskies will be back in the Eastern time zone the next week, heading to Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Blue & Gold tournament. Again the Huskies start the week against the host-school, facing the Pitt Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 16. They will then take on Eastern Illinois and Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Pac-10 play begins on Sept. 24-25 with UW heading on the road to the Oregon schools. The next week the Huskies will finally be back in front of their home fans as they take on USC on Oct. 1 and UCLA on Oct. 2 followed by a visit from the Cougars on Oct. 8.
Additional Pac-10 home weekends are Oct. 22-23 when UW hosts Arizona and Arizona State, Nov. 12-13 when California and Stanford visit, and Nov. 26-27 when the Oregon schools are in town to close out the regular season.
