Baseball In The Pros: Midseason Report

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The California League squared off against the Carolina League in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tuesday night, officially marking the halfway point of the Advanced Class-A season. Former Beaver Daniel Roberston played in that All-Star game, going 0-for-1 with a walk.
Robertson is one of many former Beavers who are currently playing for professionally affiliated organizations this season. Here's a look at how those former Oregon State student-athletes are doing thus far.

Andy Baldwin (Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A, Seattle Mariners) - Baldwin is 4-3 in 17 appearances for the Rainiers, posting a 4.73 ERA in 59 innings. He has started eight games.
Brian Barden (Florida Marlins, MLB) - Barden is a reserve infielder in his first season with Florida, and has played in 33 games, batting .192 with three RBI and three walks.
Darwin Barney (Iowa Cubs, Triple-A, Chicago Cubs) - Barney has appeared in 68 games for the Cubs' top affiliate, and is batting .293 with 15 doubles, two triples and a home run. He has driven in 23.
Dave Brundage (Gwinnett Braves, Triple-A, Atlanta Braves) - Brundage is the manager at Triple-A Gwinnett and has led the club to a 33-39 record thus far.
Dallas Buck (Carolina Mudcats, Double-A, Cincinnati Reds) - Buck has made nine appearances, all starts, for Carolina in 2010. He has a 3-4 record and 6.41 ERA in 39 1/3 innings of work.
Jamie Burke (Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A, Washington Nationals) - Burke has appeared in 15 games for the Chiefs, and has played in one game for the Nationals. With Syracuse, he is hitting .267 with three doubles and two RBI.
Mitch Canham (Portland Beavers, Triple-A, San Diego Padres) - Canham was recently called up to Portland after 54 games with San Antonio in the Texas League (hitting .212 with eight doubles and two home runs). In three games with Portland, he is 2-for-10 with a walk.
Jacoby Ellsbury (Boston Red Sox, MLB) - Ellsbury has played in just nine games due to two stints on the disabled list because of rib injuries. He is hitting .250 with four doubles and three RBI for Boston.
Mike Ekstrom (Durham Bulls, Triple-A, Tampa Bay Rays) - Ekstrom has pitched in 20 games for the Bulls, going 3-1 with a 0.93 ERA. He also has a save in 29 innings. He started the season with Tampa Bay and was 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA in six games.
Cole Gillespie (Arizona Diamondbacks, MLB) - Is currently in his second stint with Arizona, and was 1-for-5 against the New York Yankees in his first game back Tuesday night. On the year, he is hitting .250 with five doubles, one home run and four RBI in 18 games.
Tyler Graham (Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A, San Francisco Giants) - Graham has played in 44 games for Fresno, and is hitting .383 with 11 doubles, two triples and 13 RBI. He 14 bases in 20 attempts.
Chris Hopkins (Lansing Lugnuts, Class-A, Toronto Blue Jays) - Hopkins has played in 33 games for the Lugnuts this season, batting .259 with four doubles and nine RBI. He has 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts.
Andy Jenkins (Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A, Texas Rangers) - Jenkins has split time at Double-A Frisco, where is batting .239 with three doubles and four home runs in 29 games, and Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has played in 23 games at the Triple-A level, batting .266 with a double and seven RBI.
Eddie Kunz (Binghamton Mets, Double-A, New York Mets) - Kunz has appeared in 17 games for the Double-A Mets this season, with seven of them starts. He has a 5-4 record and 5.37 ERA in 63 2/3 innings.
Jordan Lennerton (Lakeland Flying Tigers, Class-A, Detroit Tigers) - Lennerton has played in 59 games for the Class-A Flying Tigers and is batting .290 with 15 doubles and three home runs. He has driven in 23.
Aaron Mathews (Las Vegas 51s, Triple-A, Toronto Blue Jays) - Mathews has appeared in 24 games for the 51s, albeit none since May 30. He is batting .324 with four doubles, a triple and four home runs. He has driven in nine.
Ryan Ortiz (Stockton Ports, Class-A, Oakland Athletics) - Ortiz has appeared in 35 games for the Class-A Ports, batting .305 - including a .371 clip over his last 10 games - with nine doubles, a triple and five home runs. He has driven in 25. He is on the same club as former Pac-10 opponents Petey Paramore (Arizona State) and Grant Green (USC).
Joe Paterson (Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A, San Francisco Giants) - Paterson is teammates with fellow former Beaver Tyler Graham and has a 1-1 record and 2.42 ERA in 21 appearances, all in relief, for the Grizzlies. He began the season at Class-A San Jose and was 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in seven appearances.
Jorge Reyes (Lake Elsinore Storm, Class-A, San Diego Padres) - Reyes is 7-4 in his first season at advanced Class-A Lake Elsinore, and has an ERA of 4.86 in 14 games, including 13 starts. He has struck out 57 in 66 2/3 innings.
Daniel Robertson (Lake Elsinore Storm, Class-A, San Diego Padres) - Robertson is a teammate of Reyes' and appeared in the California-Carolina League All-Star game Tuesday night. He is hitting .327 in 68 games on the year, and has eight doubles to go along with seven triples and four home runs. He also has 15 stolen bases and 31 RBI.
Tanner Robles (Billings Mustangs, Rookie, Cincinnati Reds) - Robles recently signed with the Reds after completing his OSU career and is on the Mustangs' roster but has yet to make his professional debut.
Stefen Romero (Seattle Mariners) - Romero has signed with the Mariners, but has not played yet due to an injury suffered during his junior season at Oregon State.
Adalberto Santos (State College Spikes, Class-A, Pittsburgh Pirates) - Santos made his professional debut this past week, doubling and tripling in his first game. Through two games, he is 3-for-7 with two doubles and four RBI.
Mike Stutes (Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Triple-A, Philadelphia Phillies) - Stutes was recently promoted to the Triple-A IronPigs from Double-A Reading. With Lehigh Valley, he is 0-0 in two appearances. He appeared in 25 games for Reading, all in relief, sporting a 3.79 ERA with a 3-0 record.
Daniel Turpen (Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A, San Francisco Giants) - Turpen is 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 26 games for Richmond. He has struck out 24 compared to just nine walks in 36 innings.
Tyler Waldron (State College Spikes, Class-A, Pittsburgh Pirates) - A teammate of Santos', Waldron made his professional debut Tuesday night and earned a no decision after going three innings, allowing four hits and two runs.
Joey Wong (Asheville Tourists, Class-A, Colorado Rockies) - Wong has played in 34 games for the Tourists, batting .259 with seven doubles and a home runs. He has driven in 15.
