Stanford Men Maintain No. 1 Ranking in USTFCCCA Poll; Oregon Women Ascend to No. 2
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The STANFORD men's cross country team continues to hold the top ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Coaches Poll this week, leading three Pac-10 men's teams in the rankings. On the women's side, OREGON jumped three spots to No. 2 to lead the four Conference squads in the poll.
The Cardinal men have been ranked No. 1 every week this season. After winning the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 25, the squad is preparing for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 16 in Terre Haute, Ind. The OREGON men are close behind the Cardinal at No. 3 after winning the Notre Dame Invitational over the weekend. UCLA is ranked No. 26, while both ARIZONA STATE and CALIFORNIA received votes.
Following an impressive second-place showing at the Notre Dame Invitational, the Ducks climbed three spots to No. 2 in the women's poll, their highest ranking of the season. ARIZONA jumped three spots to No. 6, the highest ranking for the Wildcats since finishing fourth overall at the 2001 NCAA Championships. WASHINGTON and STANFORD round out Pac-10 teams at 13th and 17th, respectively. Arizona State received votes.
Pac-10 teams return to competition the weekend of Oct. 15-16. Eight Conference teams will run at the Pre-NCAA Invitational. The Ducks host the Bill Dellinger Invitational while USC travels to the Northridge Invitational.
