Three From Pac-10 Named to Wooden Award Women’s Top 30

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Los Angeles Athletic Club has announced its John R. Wooden Award Women’s Preseason Top 30 list and three Pac-10 players are among the watch list for the national player of the year award, including returning 2010 Wooden All-American and STANFORD standout Nnemkadi Ogwumike. Joining Ogwumike on the list was teammate Kayla Pedersen and UCLA’s Jasmine Dixon.

The 35th annual Wooden Award ceremony, which will include the announcement of the Men’s and Women’s Wooden Award winners, a special tribute to Coach Wooden and Wooden Award founder Duke Llewellyn, and the presentation of the Wooden Award All American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award, will take place the weekend of April 8-10, 2011.

JR F Nnemkadi Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas) was the 2010 Pac-10 Player of the Year and a Wooden Award, WBCA, USBWA and Associated Press All-American last year, nearly averaging a double-double with 18.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. She helped the Cardinal reach the championship game of the NCAA Tournament.

SR F Kayla Pedersen (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) was an All-Pac-10 pick and played an instrumental role in the team’s trip to the NCAA title game, ranking second on the squad in points (15.8 ppg) and rebounds (9.5 rpg), while also shooting .377 from long range.

JR G Jasmine Dixon (Long Beach, Calif.) made an immediate impact on the squad, after becoming eligible in December due to NCAA transfer rules. Dixon was the team’s leader in points and rebounds, averaging 15.3 ppg and 8.0 rpg, leading the Bruins to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the team’s first appearance in the “Big Dance” since 2006.

The women’s basketball campaign is just around the corner with the season tipping off the weekend of Friday, Nov. 12. The Pac-10 slate starts just before the turn of the new calendar year on December 31st.
