Bears Top Buffs In Three
WACO, Texas - Baylor University defeated the University of Colorado volleyball team 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-15) on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center. With the loss Colorado falls to 6-12 overall, 3-9 in the Big 12, while Baylor improves to 12-10, 5-6 in the conference.
Kerra Schroeder and Anicia Santos each recorded nine kills to lead CU in the match. Rosie Steinhaus and Nikki Lindow each added five kills. Santos hit a team hit .368 with two errors on 19 attacks. The Buffs recorded 32 total kills and hit .137 in the effort.
Colorado picked up 51 team digs. Kat Constantine led the Buffs with a career-high 12 digs, serving as the team's libero for the first time this season. Megan Beckwith added eight digs and Jessica Aschenbrenner totaled a career-best seven digs.
The Bears recorded 45 kills and hit .296 in the match. Torri Campbell led BU with 12 kills and hit .579 with just one error on 19 swings. On defense BU picked up 61 digs and was led by Caitlyn Trice's 21 digs. The Bears also posted 7.5 team blocks.
The Buffs played a very close second set and even took the lead at 7-5 before the Bears used a 4-0 run to go up 9-7. CU came back to tie the score at 12 and took the lead with a kill from Santos. The score was tied again at 19 and then again at 20 before BU went up 24-20. CU fought off the first set point with a BU hitting error (24-21) and then got a block from Santos and Schroeder (24-22). The Bears recorded another hitting error to bring the Buffs within one point (24-23) but then closed the set with a kill from Ashley Byrd.
The Buffs will return to the friendly confines of the Coors Events Center to host No. 10 Texas on Saturday, October 30 at 4 p.m. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host a Trick-or-Treat Street, starting at 3 p.m. for children. Admission to the match is free for those who wear a costume.
