Eight Pac-10 Women's Soccer Players Honored on 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Eight Pac-10 women's soccer student-athletes were named to the 2010 Academic All-District 8 Women's Soccer Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced recently. Four were selected to the first team, three were selected to the second team and one was selected to the third team. STANFORD led the way with four selections, ARIZONA STATE had two and OREGON STATE and CALIFORNIA each had one selection.
First teamers include Stanford SR GK Kira Maker, SR F Christen Press, JR F Teresa Noyola and Arizona State SR MF Alexandra Elston.
Stanford's Maker, who boasts a 3.97 GPA in human biology was named to the first team. Maker is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic first teamer who has played in seven games this year for the Cardinal and made 12 saves. Maker's teammate, Christen Press holds a 3.61 GPA in communications. Press leads the Cardinal with 21 goals scored and is first nationally with 1.167 goals per game and 2.72 points per game. Teresa Noyola is the third Cardinal named to the first team with a 3.59 GPA in math and computational science. She leads the squad with 11 assists on the season. Rounding out Pac-10's first team selections is Arizona State's Alexandra Elston, who holds a 3.89 GPA in speech and hearing sciences is second on the squad with four goals on the season.
All four first team representatives will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Representatives on the second team include Oregon State JR GK Colleen Boyd, Arizona State SO F Sierra Cook and California SR F Alex Morgan. Oregon State's Boyd, who holds a 3.58 GPA in liberal studies and boasts a .887 save percentage between the posts. Sierra Cook of ASU, a nursing major, is a second team selection with a 3.78 GPA and has netted three goals on the year. Rounding out the second team is Cal's Alex Morgan, who has a 3.31 GPA in political economy and leads the team with 14 goals scored.
The Pac-10 is represented on the third team by Stanford SO F Courtney Verloo, an undeclared major with a 3.49 GPA. She has two assists and has started in all 18 games for the Cardinal this season.
