Four Pac-10 Men's Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Four Pac-10 men's soccer players were named to the CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District VIII First Team as announced Tuesday. STANFORD's Bobby Warshaw and Dominique Yahyavi and WASHINGTON'S Brent Richards and Jamie Finch earned the academic nods, and are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Warshaw maintains a 3.57 GPA in political science and is a 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist. An Academic All-American last season after being named to the All-District team, Warshaw was also the Cardinal's first NSCAA All-American since 2002. This season, the senior defender has scored four goals, giving him 18 in his Stanford career. He has led a Cardinal defense that has recorded six shutouts and is allowing just one goal per game.
Yahyavi, also a repeat All-District honoree, carries a 3.75 GPA in computer science. Yahyavi has had a breakthrough season, leading Stanford with six goals and 13 points. The senior midfielder has three game-winning goals this season, including two in 1-0 wins.
Richards, an All-District selection last year, has a 3.74 GPA in his studies. The junior forward has led the Huskies in goals the past two seasons and is continuing this streak with eight goals thus far, the most among Pac-10 players.
Finch, a junior defender, carries a 3.71 GPA in business marketing and finance. Last season, Finch was one of four Huskies to start all 18 matches and has maintained his streak, starting all 15 this season. Finch has recorded one assist while remaining a defensive force.
All four players were members of the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team last season.
The group of four, along with all other first-team honorees, will go on the national ballot to determine Academic All-America teams.
