Nine Pac-10 Football Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Nine Pac-10 football players were named to the CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District VIII teams as announced recently. STANFORD and WASHINGTON STATE each had three players named to the list and OREGON, CALIFORNIA and UCLA all had one honoree a piece.

WASHINGTON STATE junior wide receiver Jared Karsetter holds a 3.55 GPA in zoology (pre-med/pre-dentistry) and was named to the all-district team. He is joined by teammates Chima Nwachukwu, a senior defensive back, who holds a 3.85 GPA in political science and senior offensive lineman Micah Hannam, a civil engineering major with a 3.58 GPA.

STANFORD senior offensive lineman Chase Beeler leads all Cardinal honorees with a 3.68 GPA in history. He is joined by fellow senior offensive lineman Andrew Phillips who holds a 3.50 in classics. Senior linebacker/fullback Owen Marecic rounds things out with a 3.47 GPA in human biology.

CALIFORNIA defensive lineman Ernest Owusu made the all-district team with a 3.32 in political economics of industrialized societies.

OREGON was represented on the team by sophomore offensive lineman Carson York, a journalism/advertising major with a 3.70 GPA.

Rounding out the Pac-10 selections was UCLA sophomore punter Jeff Locke, who boasts a 3.57 GPA in economics.

These nine players will be added to the national ballot and are eligible for Academic All-America honors.
